With their daughter’s wedding approaching, Mr & Mrs Driscoll decided to add a fabulous contemporary extension to their large detached home in Cardiff to provide the perfect setting for 100 guests at the wedding reception.

They also wanted to future proof their home for old age and ensure that they had a beautiful home in which they could enjoy their retirement.

Luckily for them, a personal friend is a partner at their local Ultraframe installer, Adenhart, and having seen the quality of previous installations carried out by the company, they had no hesitation in choosing them to carry out the spectacular project.

After sitting down to discuss ideas for the extension, Adenhart explained the many Ultraframe roof options which could be used to bring light into the extension and the couple decided on a large flat-roofed design featuring two large Ultrasky Lanterns at 3250mm x 1725mm in anthracite grey aluminium to complement the 9.5m aluminium sliding doors.

Explaining more about the decision making process for their extension, Mrs Driscoll said: “We are absolutely thrilled with our new extension, it’s fantastic and we live in it every day. When looking for options for the roof, we wanted to ensure that there was plenty of natural light in the room below. Because the Ultrasky Lantern has such slim bars, this means there is more glass – meaning maximum light. We loved the crisp look of the system and its slimline look fitted perfectly with the modern style of the rest of the extension.”

The Ultrasky Lantern features 25% fewer bars than conventional glazed roofs and boasts ultra slim components for the ultimate in contemporary aesthetics.

It’s also the warmest Lantern on the market, featuring thermal breaks both inside and out and a thermally insulated eaves rail. This means that the Ultrasky Lantern is unrivalled in terms of thermal performance, ensuring a living space that is always a comfortable temperature, no matter what the weather outside.

Concluding about how their new extension has changed the way they live in their home, Mrs Driscoll said: “Our extension is light and bright thanks to the Ultrasky Lanterns in the roof and has given us lots of extra space which is very convenient thanks to the open plan design. It’s a pleasure to use the space and makes us feel chilled out when we are in there. It has opened up the garden and we now feel as if the garden is part of the house.
