Conservatory refurbishment wishlist
The Turner family had an existing T-shaped conservatory with a polycarbonate roof which was in need of refurbishment. They wanted a more usable room which would also improve the feel of the adjoining rooms and increase their connection to the garden. They explained to Mendip Conservatories that they wanted a solid roof but with glazed areas to ensure a light and bright interior and so Livinroof from Ultraframe was the perfect choice.
With the Livinroof system, the roof is made up of solid panels and glazed panels, and these can each be positioned anywhere in the roof for a completely bespoke design – allowing you to ensure there is light exactly where you need it. On the interior, Livinroof has a plastered vaulted ceiling and so creates an extension-type feel – even though it can be fitted quickly as it is 100% pre-fabricated by Ultraframe prior to arriving on site.
A stunning new living space
The team at Mendip demolished the existing conservatory and built a new hipped lean-to with a Victorian section which was 8.5m wide. As the solid panels in Livinroof are grey in colour, it’s ideal for pairing with contemporary anthracite grey windows and doors, as seen in this installation. A Cornice was added to the exterior to give an orangery-like feel, while on the interior, the insulated pelmet provided the perfect space for downlighters, as well as giving the new space a substantial feel – making it look and feel like a traditionally built extension, but with the fitting speed of a conservatory.
Somewhere we can spend time as a family
There were challenges for the Mendip team along the way, including repositioning a boundary wall and demolishing a bay window which had to be removed post installation to maintain water tightness but everything was completed to plan as Mr Turner explained: “The team at Mendip Conservatories was great. They worked with us throughout and provided us with a flexible solution to extending our home. The ability to reduce the amount of glazing in the roof was important so the room wasn’t too bright or hot and so Livinroof with its mix of solid and glazed panels was ideal. Our new living space is somewhere we can spend time as a family and we use it throughout the day now - a quiet room in the morning, family room for lunches and for relaxing early evening to enjoy the view of the garden. It’s improved the lighting into the existing lounge and dining room by removing the old thick frames, giving us a large flexible space which connects our home with the garden. In fact it’s actually increased the amount of time we all spend in the garden.”
