Small space, Big imagination

This stunning Livinroof installation by The Extension Group shows just what is possible with a small space, a big imagination and the most configurable solid roof on the market.

The owners of this small maisonette in London contacted The Extension Group to ask for their help in providing them with much-needed additional living space where they could fit a dining table. Being London, space is at an absolute premium and so the owners were unsure as to how they could achieve their aims with the limited space available.

The team at The Extension Group knew that with Livinroof – the most configurable solid roof on the market – they could create an extension design to fit any space, and so decided to make the most of the space at the side of the house that was used for little more than plant pots and storage of garden equipment such as hosepipes.

Clever Thinking

A clever design was created which used the small space next to the house and the patio to create a multi-functional dining/lounge area. The Livinroof, which incorporates a Georgian and a lean-to section, is a mix of solid panels and 5 full-length glazed panels. These were included in the design to flood the room below with natural light and help to make it feel more spacious. The area which extends beyond the original corridor space features large patio doors coupled with full-length glazing to further enhance the amount of light and the airy feel of the new extension. 

From the inside, the areas of the Livinroof that are not glazed look just like a traditionally built extension – a high vaulted ceiling that is plastered. Yet, because Livinroof is based on conservatory technology, it can be fitted within one day, making a beautiful extension possible in just a fraction of the time it would usually take.

Livinroof is an extremely thermally efficient warm roof system, and so this new room will be a pleasure to be in every day of the year.

Relaxed London Living

The resulting extension provided the owners with the eating area they desired, along with an area to relax on comfortable chairs. Thanks to the full-length glazed panels in the Livinroof, the whole space and the adjoining kitchen is a beautifully welcoming and airy place to enjoy.

It’s incredible to think that this extremely usable new living space was once little more than a corridor and an unloved section of patio.
