UCS: House Extension Installation

Australian born Lisa emigrated to England in 1998 after meeting her husband James who had been backpacking around Australia.  Although James was originally from Ireland, they decided to settle in London.  During their time living in London, James and Lisa continued to look for a property in Ireland to make their long term home. They eventually found their perfect home in the most idyllic location overlooking loch Eske in Donegal. 

Lisa said:

“As soon as we saw the house, we knew it was perfect for us.  It had the most stunning, unobstructed views of the loch, and we could envisage raising our children in such a beautiful place”.  The house itself needed some renovating before they could move in and they also wanted to add a conservatory to take full advantage of the spectacular views, so while work got underway the couple remained in London."

They eventually moved into their property in 2010 and settled into family life.  As time went by, they became very aware that some of the renovations had not been carried out to the standard they had expected and the conservatory that had been added was not fit for purpose. 

Lisa said:

"It was completely unusable as it leaked very badly from the roof, and the fake Georgian bars on the windows obstructed our views.  It was absolutely freezing cold and even the summer it was cold as we face far north so we don’t even get the afternoon sun.  So we just shut the door on the conservatory and forgot about it” 

3 years passed and the couple revisited their options of having a different conservatory built and talked to PML about what their options were.  They quickly determined that the Ultraframe house extension was exactly what they were looking.

Lisa said:

“We are very exposed to the elements, so it was really important to us that the extra space we so badly wanted had to be usable all year round.  We wanted to open it up to the rest of the house and use as a dining room, so therefore thermal performance was very high on our list of priorities.”

Lisa concludes:

“It really is the most fabulous extension. It is so solid and warm.  We have had some pretty awful weather of late and we were slightly apprehensive that without any window dressings it would be too cold for us to use, but thanks to the heated columns we are able to use it all of the time I feel like I have finally got what I wanted, and it is the most used room in the house now”
