Building the Perfect Single-Storey Extension with Ultraroof

The Challenge

Mr & Mrs Beddington live near Cannock in Staffordshire. They recently extended their new-build home with a single storey extension to create a luxurious, light-filled living space. The Ultraroof solution they chose meant build-time was fast, the hassle zero and the result impressive.

When Mr & Mrs Beddington were looking to buy a new house, they knew the convenience of a new-build extension would best suit their busy lifestyle. They found the perfect four-bedroom detached home and moved in just in time for Christmas, December 2016.

There was just one thing the couple wanted to change – they wanted a more living space downstairs. The house was an ‘L’ shape, making the obvious solution a single storey extension to square-off the ‘L’ and transform the kitchen into a large open-plan room with space at one end for soft seating and direct access to the garden.

Mr & Mrs Beddington wanted all the benefits of a conservatory, but the look and feel of a single storey extension. Internally it was important the new space flowed seamlessly into the kitchen, with wooden flooring to match the existing design.

The couple wanted the extension to have open-plan access into the living room to make the most of the natural light throughout the home. They wanted the new structure to appear as if it were part of the original house, with bricks and brown roof tiles to match the existing style, along with bi-fold doors, the house naturally flows into the garden.

Ultraroof Extension Cost

The Recommendation

Cardinal Home Improvements recommended a brick-built single storey extension with an Ultraroof from Ultraframe. With installation costs similar to those of a conservatory, as opposed to a traditional extension, the team at Cardinal were confident the Beddingtons would be impressed with the Ultraroof solution.

With a ‘real room’ feel, Ultraroof extensions are ideal for homeowners who want an integrated living area that feels part of the existing home without the need for internal doors, which can be used all year round and doesn’t necessarily require additional heating.

The thermal performance of Ultraroof is second-to-none. The option to integrate roof panels makes it a flexible solution. From the outside, the tiled roof – in a choice of three colours – adds the finishing touch by giving the impression tiles matching the main house.

The result for Mr & Mrs Beddington is a stunning home, with an additional reception room and a bright and airy kitchen offering lovely views of the garden. The Ultraroof extension is open-plan to the rest of the home, while the glazed roof panel acts as a focal point and floods the room with light for the majority of the day.

Ultraroof Reviews

How Ultraroof Delivered

Mr & Mrs Beddington were delighted with their completed Ultraroof extension. The finished structure – comprising an Ultraroof and other space-creating features like bi-fold doors – helped to open out their space and give the Beddingtons the additional room they needed.

“We love it – it’s our perfect garden room,” said Mr Beddington. “The previous ‘L’ shape of the home didn’t maximise the available footprint of the plot, but with the extension, our downstairs now feels so spacious. Initially, we were a little concerned we might lose some light into the living room, but Cardinal Home Improvements were amazing from day one and recommended the glazed roof panel and bi-fold doors to solve that problem. The new room is our favourite place to be, looking out onto the garden – now we just need to get around to landscaping the lawn!”
